British Government Scrambles To Get 600,000 Tourists Home

British travel company and airline Thomas Cook declared bankruptcy early Monday morning, local time.

Business Insider reports the announcement left 600,000 travelers stranded across the globe, including 150,000 Britons.

In response, the British government has begun the largest peacetime repatriation effort in history.

The tour operator failed to secure an additional £200 million in emergency funding on Sunday.
