Newscenter 25 Sports At World Series Game Six
Their second world series championship in three years..
Our sean coffey, at minute maid park with a preview on the astros and nationals, world series game six.
What a difference a weekend makes.
After heading to the nation's capitol on thursday down 0-2 in this best of seven, the astros held the nationals to three runs over three games and they return home tonight just one win away from a world series title.
They'll hand the ball to justin verlander with the hopes he can close it out and exorcise some october demons.
Despite a hall of fame resume, verlander is 0-5 with a 5.73 era in six world series starts.
But manager a.j.
Hinch says he isn't concerned.
Asked about it in his pre-game press conference, hinch says it's not a career trend, just a bit of an october issue.
Then there's this: verlander's toed the rubber in two potential clinchers so far this post-season; game 4 of the alds in tampa and game five of the alcs against the yankees.
No pitcher in playoff history has ever started and lost three.
In that pre- game presser, hinch was also asked if a second world series title in three years would define these astros in a way one championship would not.
Hinch's response, "that's too deep for me.
I'm just trying to get trea turner out in the first inning."
It's that type of laser focus that's come to define this team the last few years and they hope to get them one more win here tonight.
It's verlander vs.
Strasburg 2.0 as the astros look to take it back here in houston.
