Firefighters from Tupelo, Westpoint, and Columbus are there lending a helping hand.

Fire station number one to tell us about the firefighters who volunteered.

Tupelo firefighters left over the weekend.

Here at fire station 1, i spoke with batallion chief bill wardlaw about the firefighters who volunteered.

Three of them volunteered to help with rescue efforts from flooding in the jackson area.

Wardlaw said the firefighters are trained in making swift water rescues.

They may go out on the pearl river and into flooded subdivisions to rescue people.

Now, this isnt the first time tupelo firefighters helped out firefighters from the area help when hurricanes hit the gulf coast..

"those guys are awesome because obviously they volunteer to get the training.

Volunteer to go help people out in other areas besides there own home town.

So, it's kind of neat.

We're all proud of them.

We keep track of them and they will send us text messages and pictures of what they are doing and we kind of track them and see how they are doing.

According to wardlaw, the mississippi emergency management agency now commands the firefighters.

He said the firefighters can return home once mema lets them go live in tupelo, alisa anderson, w-t-v-a nine news.....
