High school students took part in a simulation to prepare for the real world

A real world look at finances - from paying bills and budgeting to balancing check books... it's all part of the second annual personal finance camp at a rochester high school.

Rochester public school students are getting a lesson in finance.

Personal finance-bpkg-2 it's really just trying to get the students thinking right now about saving money and investing their money and budgeting as early as possible so they'll get into those good habits early on.

Personal finance-bpkg-6 in class - personal finance and investment students chose an entry level career - deducted taxes and squirrled away savings.

We have three new vehicle options and three used vehicle options... but now they're spending their hard earned imaginary paycheck on the necessities like housing..transp ortation..

Plus entertainment and food.

Are you going to do dinner with friends, maybe you're a coffee drinker and you swing by starbucks.

Personal finance-bpkg-3 it's cool to kind of see and break down how your money wittles away slowly and the reality of everything.

Personal finance-bpkg-7 students say they're happy the district offers the course...as it gives them a much more realistic picture of finances in their future.

Personal finance-bpkg-8 the district says this event hammers home that basic money management is a necessasity in the real world.

It's one of those things where we can talk about it so much and their parents can talk about it so much but actually seeing the numbers and seeing the information is valuable to them to get a good handle on it.

And really look at it in actual numbers and where the money actually goes.
