Investigators looking what led to escape

News this morning - people in one community are relieved after the search for an escaped murderer is finally over.

Authorities arrested daniel miner last night.

The picture on your screen was taken just seconds after his arrest.

Miner escaped a work release center on saturday before authorities found him at a home in falkville.

That's just south of hartselle in morgan county and while his freedom lasted longer than authorities would've hoped -- so did his surrender.

After a 3-hour stand-off with police -- miner finally coming out of the home -- signaling a peaceful end.

While it was the end authorities longed for -- it didn't come without a scare.

Miner threatened he had a bomb -- forcing the madison couty bomb squad into action and different tactics from authorities.

Mike swafford - morgan county sheriff's office "after trying to communicate for several hours, we were able to make entry by popping tear gas, at that point after several rounds, the individual did come out and is taken into custody" medics were on scene and evaluated miner after he was captured.

And many questions still remain -- including why daniel miner was even at a work release center without having a job assignment.

Waay 31's rodneya ross is live outside the morgan county sheriff's office now.

Rodneya -- we understand miner wasn't even eligible for a job assignment, right?

That's right -- we found out the convicted murderer never had a job assignment because he wasn't eligible for one but was still being held at a low security work release facility daniel miner was serving a life sentence for a 19-93 murder in marshall county.

He was being housed at the childersburg work release center in alpine, alabama investigators are trying to piece together how an inmate under the department of corrections watch....ended up 116 miles away from where he was being held.

"investigators will continue to see what brought him to this residence and any acts that took place prior to this as well as anything that happened tonight we would assume additional charges would come from that in addition to the escape charges and life sentences he was already facing we have requested documents on miner's past criminal history from the department of corrections -- we are still waiting to receive them.

We are also working to learn what the department of corrections plans to do to keep this from happening again.

Once we hear from them we will pass anything we learn along to you.
