Butte County Health officials say precautions in place for coronavirus

Butte County Public Health is taking no chances in allowing the coronavirus to spread in the county.

Representatives met with butte county supervisors today to go over their plan.

Action news now reporter 'mackenzie drigo' explains why they're not telling the public where they've tracked the virus.

Sot with butte county public health officer, andy miller "at this point we have no intent and likely don't have the ability to try to be publishing exposure sites, and that's not happening in other communities as well," more vo butte county public health officer, andy miller says there are too many cases in too many places to track.

Sot "it going to be more like the influenza virus in that its going to come in multiple different areas, so the idea of containment it is one that we will try but at some point we will be unable to do that."

Sot robert lykes community member of oroville-7 seconds "i think the cats out of the bag not, theres not really much they can do to contain it and were just going to have to build up some resistances the good news& miller says there are zero cases of coronavirus in butte county so far.

Standup "butte county public health department told me that if youre feeling sick you should go to your local clinic just like the one right behind me to get yourself checked to make sure youre not at risk for the corona virus" more vo you should also call ahead so the clinic or doctor's office can prepare for you.

Miller tells us they have been working with health care providers.

Sot "schools, institution of higher education, event organizers, emergency medical services and first responders, and employers, there is very specific advice for all of those entities to be found at the cdc and often also supplementary information at the california department of public health," sot cameron corber community member of oroville 7 seconds "keep your hands pretty much clean and if you put your hands in your mouth, yeah youre going to get sick," sot wiley taylor community member of oroville 8 seconds "i haven't been taking any public transportation, staying away from places where there's a bunch of people like not going out to the movies or anything like that," sot bonnie youngblood community member of oroville 6 seconds "even going to walmart im sanitizing everything so i don't have to touch it and i keep the wipes to open the door," miller says he wants people to take these precautions seriously but to not panic.

Campus officials tell me as of now business is as usual and classes are still meeting in person.

Media relations coordinator sean murphy -- says the campus has no plans to cancel classes... or switch to online classes... but there is talk about contingency plans.

This morning a full-time emergency operations centered opened -- which used to be part-time.

And university officials are meeting to discuss possible impacts of a campus shutdown.

This is such a rapidly moving situation its evolving by the hour it seems like -- but as of now things are as they are classes are being taught in person but could things change tomorrow absolutely.

Murphy told action news now they take lead from butte county public health... so if they say the campus needs to close or adjust classes they will do that.
