ISU senior weighs in on not being able to walk for graduation

Avenue in bicknell indiana.

Indiana state university has canceled all events moving forwards.

That includes all spring commencement ceremonies.

That's in hopes to hault the spread of covid-19.

At 5 we heard from an isu senior.

As you can imagine this news is heartbreaking to her and many other students.

News 10's richard solomon joins us now live in studio.

Richard shares more on the seniors thoughts on finishing the rest of the semester online.

Breonna metcalf says she never imagined working this hard in school to not be able to walk for graduation.

It's a realization for her and many nationwide.

" breonna metcalf is a senior at indiana state university.

This week she received what she calls heartbreaking news.

"it is especially difficult to announce that we will be canceling our spring commencements" metcalf says it was like her heart was ripped out her chest.

"everybody doesn't go to college everyody doesn't get to t his point and for me and the whole class of 2020 to get to this point and something that big is taken away from them..

Everything's incomplete...it's like what now" she and other isu students have to finish the semester online..

Isu leaders recently made these changes to slow down the spread of the coronavirus.

But metcalf says makingthe transition to online may be challenging.

"some people get the lack of motivation.

You don't get the daily communication with people the daily communication with your teacher although you can email them it's not the same to talk to somebody in person" metcalf says it's an abrupt ending to a major chapter in her life.

But she's not going to let anything keep her from moving forward "you're missing out on something but you should still finish strong.

It shouldn't make you want to give up" seniors have been invited to walk in the ceremony this december.

Metcalf says she doesn't know if she'll walk in december.

It just wouldn't be the same.

The last day for isu students to move out is saturday.
