Douglas County holds second drive-through clinic for coronavirus testing

The pilot ran on Tuesday.

Coast is having difficulties getting tested for the virus.

But officials in douglas county opened the first drive thru testing clinic in oregon today.

Kezi 9 news reporter evita garza was there and shows us how it works.

Public health officer bob dannenhoffer has tested more than 50 patients for coronavirus this week alone.

This is actually boring.

Cause we done it so many times that we knew what we were doing?

The test, which only takes three to four minutes, is just a simple swab in the nose.

But dannenhoffer says it has made some people nervous.

This is the first time theye have something five inches into their nose?

Especially after seeing him in all his personal protective equiptment.

Evita:?testers are trying to have as little contact with the patient as possible.

Theye requiring everyone to have a cell phone so that they can talk to the patient without rolling the window down... except when theye getting swabbed?

The county got more than 80 testing kits for the drive thru project.

They tested 17 people tuesday, 35 today and the rest are being saved for another clinic next week.

Right now, douglas county has one confirmed case.

Vanessa becker says they expect to report a few more when they get results back in 2 to 4 days.?its unfortunate that we have to test at all or that wee in the middle of a pandemic, but it is a positive that wee able to stand this up quickly?

But dannenhoffer says that a great thing.

He says mass testing is a way to get ahead of the virus.

Individually, this testing is not hard.

Individually, people will get through this?

Right now, theye working to get more test kits to run more clinics.

Dannenhoffer says the faster they identify cases, the faster they can get them treatment.
