One in salt lake city two weeks ago, and a magnitude 6.5 quake in idaho yesterday.

So to understand these earthquakes, and to understand our own risk for earthquakes, we have to understand what a fault line is.

(reality in a fault line is a crack in the rock beneath us where both masses of ground slide against eachother.

This isn't a graudal motion, but a sudden one?

One which can result in powerful earthquakes.

There are large active fault lines near both recent earthquakes in idaho and utah.

Closer to home, a similar stretch of fault lines with the potential for large earthquakes, is to our south in missouri and illinois.
