Oneonta approves paid sick leave
Resolution relieves financial burden of city employees due to coronavirus.

Of people out of work and could potentially force out thousands more.

That includes those employed by the city of oneonta.

At tonight's common council meeting, members...meeting on zoom... unanimously passed a resolution to approve paid sick leave for any city employee forced to stay home as a way to contain the coronavirus.

These employees will also continue to receive their health insurance benefits.

The resolution takes affect retroactively on march 17th and is set to expire on may 15th unless governor cuomo's executive order is extended.

"it was pretty clear to me that the intent of the council was that none of our employees, part time or full time would be loosing pay because of covid.the executive order said that employees should be allowed paid leave without charging accruals.

Part timers are in that gray area, they don't have accruals.

So this is just to cover them."

Oneonta mayor gary herzig also announced the formation of a covid-19 relief and recovery fund to support organizations and residents affected by the coronavirus.

The fund was created by the new community foundation of otsego county.
