Empty roads bringing out the worst in drivers, speeding spikes across the state

We're several weeks into the quarantine, and as a result, speeding is spiking across the state.

Numbers show that the empty roads are bringing out the worst in drivers.

Preparing them for the future.

"covid-19" is clearing most of the highways.

While less drivers are on the road... it's leaving others to hit the gas at dangerous speeds.

News 10's jordan kudisch joins us live this morning from our newsoom.

She spoke with state police..

And explains why they're seeing drivers speeding on the roads.

State police say..

They're not only seeing speeding..

But speeding at dangerous rates..

We're talking more than 100 miles per hour.

Here's what you should know.

State police say they're not writing more speeding tickets..

That's for cars going 5-10 over the limit.

However, those who are being stopped..

Are driving incredibly fast.

Take a look at these numbers.

Over the past few days..

These are the numbers that shot across state police radars.

1-1-9 miles per hour..

107 miles per hour..

And 1-1-5 miles per hour.

Sgt.

Matt ames says this is considered a major traffic violation..

And there are consequences when shifting to high gear.

"whether you're getting stopped and getting a citation for reckless driving and getting the fines and possible jail time or license suspension.

But the real concern is you're making yourself safe and it safer for everyone else around you."
