Golf course reopens on a limited basis

Today, people are wantng to be outside even more enjoying some of their favorite hobbies like golfing.

On friday, mayor palmieri annouced the re-opening of valley view golf course here in utica but under strict guidelines.

Mike cerminaro: when i was a youngster we didn't use carts we carried the bag and what i'm hearing from a lot of the golfers on here is that it was good to get back to that again.

About a month after the empire state development deemed golf courses as non- essential businesses and said that they should be closed amind the coronavirus pandemic, the valley view golf course, is welcoming in the public again but on a limited basis.

Mike cerminaro: we could only take payments on the phone the clubhouse is locked and the golfers coming up has been extraordinary they've been very gracious they are following the distance was 6 foot at least that the mayor and the governor obviously has lay down in the covid-19 rules.

In accordance with new york state regulations, no golf carts can be rented.

All golfers must walk the course, which can be a difficult task for older golfers.

Mike cerminaro: to be honest with you we're seeing a lot of younger clientele come out golfing some of the older folks you know our heart goes out to them because they have to use carts so they're kind of chomping at the bit but they are respectful of the fact that the mayor and the governor cares about their safety and we're doing it right and we're doing it safely.

Cerminaro says that golfing is a great way to relax and engage with others after being indoors for so long and is great exercise.

Mike cerminaro: it's great exercise cardiovascular whatever you want to call it and it even has a little bit of enjoyment a little more enjoyment that you're out there walking and breathing fresh air maintain your distance and enjoying it.

But the key to re- opening any business amid the coronavirus crisis is ensuring the safety of the customers.

Mike cerminaro: i must say mary paul mary has been just a phenomenal job just managing the city and he realizes that the city of utica is people want things to open up but open up safely they are not rushing there doing it safely and abiding by the rules.
