As the state begins to open.... many organizations are weighing their options when it comes to opening pools.

In vincennes..

The parks department has made a decision on rainbow beach's future for 2020.

News 10 bureau chief gary brian tells us whats going on.

Gar} "the vincennes parks department came into 2020 with hopes of a strong sixth year here at rainbow beach.

However covid-19 appears to have put a damper on those plans."

The vincennes parks board has decided to keep rainbow beach closed in 2020.

However the decision comes with a caveat.

Park and city officals say they will continue following changes to state regulations.

Park superintendent steve beamon says if circumstances change they could reevaluate the closure.

Beamon also says the decision comes down to safety.

At half capacity rainbow beach can hold 400 people.

Beamon says this would make it very difficult to social distance in the facility.

The decision for the parks department was not an easy one.

"all the mitigation has been in place for two months.

I just don't think it is responsible to let that all go to waste to try to rush something open that we're just not one hundred percent sure about."

Gar} "the state of indiana still plans for stage five of re-opening the state to begin on july 4th.
