Community members speak on their plans to commemorate Memorial Day

Many people are looking for ways to pay their respects to america's fallen soldiers.

But officials say there are different ways to honor them --- that don't require being in large groups.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy spoke to community members about how they plan to commemorate the day, while keeping their distance.

Steve w.: "i'm going to take my usual walk, maybe by the river, maybe go bike riding&" john- "probably have at home.

Just kinda, get out here but stay home and stay safe."

As memorial day approaches, many around the county cane be found out and about, pausing my memorials...as they reflect on what it day truly means.

Kenneth: "it brings emotion to you."

6pm bridge: kenneth and shirley crabb tell me they are grateful to have been able to visit the memorials in washington d.c., but there are still plenty of ways you can show your respect wherever you might be.

Kenneth: "usually we spend it with our families.

I'm a veteran of the navy, and i've got some nephews and nieces who have been in the service.

Usually we would get together with them and just memorialize-- especially the ones you gave their lives."

The eugene masonic cemetery will have "taps" played at noon on monday, and the "hope abby mausoleum" will be open upon request.

Camp creek cemetery in springfield will be holding an online ceremony service on monday.

Shirley: "with the virus, people have really stayed in but we always go to the cemetery and take flowers out to the cemetery."

The oregon national guard will be flying over the county on monday.

And in lane county, this will take place from 11:18 a.m.

To 11:24 a.m.
