Former Oregon State Beaver Mikayla Pivec is giving back to the community, helping out physicians and frontline healthcare workers in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic.

You've seen mikayla pivec leading oregon statee women's basketball on the floor for four years.

But one of her passions throughout her career was in public service.

Nat her newest project, stemmed from a grad school class.

Mik: we wrote a list of some of the things i was passionate about and some of those things were healthcare, community service and engagement as well as cooking.

While brainstorming ways to put all three of those passions to good use, the coronavirus pandemic hit.

Mik: we reached out to hospitals to see what hospital workers eat and physician burnout.

And so then as covid emerged, we realized 'no', healthcare workers are being placed with additional stressors in their life.

And that was how this project, dubbed selfless servings, was created.

A means of not only helping out small businesses, from food vendors to caterers in the midst of a pandemic, but also to healthcare workers burdened with immense responsibility already.

Mik: i've been working on having weekly meetings with that team on wednesday and now initially launched the gofundme page yesterday which was exciting.

In just a day, pivec and her team have already raised over 2,400 dollars.

With an ultimate goal of 10,000.

Mik: my family upbringing in terms of giving back and realizing you've been given a lot and trying to utilize your platform.

With a fervent beaver fanbase behind her, pivec sees a calling that goes beyond basketball.

Mik: people support us in a lot of ways so using that platform to make a positive impact.

An impact that is directed to serving others, selflessly.
