As the director of operations and technology at wtva, it's also about connecting wires and crunching numbers.

He says the need for competent and qualified candidates in the television technology and i.t fields are greater than ever.

Sot gary savage- "we often have difficulty recruiting younger people because they just don't consider television.

The main question is always where is the next generation of television engineers come from."

College degree or no degree, savage is encouraging generation z to consider television engineering as a new way to utilize their math skills.

Sot gary savage- "it is good to have some training in it and computers.

It's good if you have some electrical background."

But the job doesn't end there.

Sot gary savage- "our biggest function is to solve problems. look at a complex problem, break the problem into manageable pieces and solve that problem.

Salary possibilities in t.v technology range from mid 30's at entry level, all the way to six figures.

But for savage the rewards of this career go far beyond the money.

Sot- gary savage- "it's really quite a wide field and that's what makes it interesting."
