Hundreds graduate amid coronavirus with non-traditional ceremonies

High school graduation season continues as the coronavirus has forced schools nationwide to celebrate in their unique way.

Cases today.### when the school year began, the class of 2020 had no way of knowing that a pandemic would derail their graduation ceremonies.

But tonight it was clear the improvised commencement plans did not dampen the enthusiasm of graduating seniors and their families.

Brandon benitez joins us to show us how the celebration still happened - social distancing and all.

Chico high graduates had a drive-through graduation today.

Student cheer cars lined up decorated with balloons and banners for seniors receiveing their diploma.

One graduate's mom celebrated the life of her son jackson would've graduated with the class of 2020.

Chico grad students gathered around the bench that was made for him today.

I think with my sons personality i think if he were to speak to them he'd say everything going to be alright///im happy we're doing something for our class and celebrating no matter what the situation is///it makes me upset that it couldn't be the traditional ceremony but it is what it is i'm just excited i could get to this point more than 100 students showed up to particpate.

Congratulations to chico high!### class of 2020 hundreds of vikings and their families lined the parking lot at pleasant valley high this evening.

Like most schools, this was a drive thru graduation.

One by one students were called up stage to snap a picture as parents cheered and watched from their cars.

Once they exited the stage and picked up their diploma, they drove off with their family and friends.

Congratulations to all the pv graduates!

Fire truck siren wailing.

Fire trucks led the way for orland high school graduates today... all part of a graduation parade... it wasn't just cars on the road... this graduating class of roughly 160 seniors still has hopes to return for an in- person ceremony... school administrators have three different plans to host a ceremony in july... option one is a traditional walking ceremony with no social distancing set in place... option two would still be a traditional ceremony but with the added coronavirus safety measures... the final option would be a drive in ceremony... all of this is contingent on the local health department's guidance.### so again - congratulations to all the class of 2020.

Back to you alan.
