At least forty peace keepers were at last fridays protest here in chico.

One of those peace keepers tells me they didn't get paid... they just wanted to help their community.

Jon scott says several downtown businesses asked him and a few dozen others to keep an eye on things.

Scott says the motorcycle club hellbent - 82 was also there.

He says their cause was to keep the peace... and not intimidate or provoke anyone or dilute the message that "black lives matter".

A lot of buisnesses boarded their places up.

Not because they were certain that violence and riots were coming, but they wanted to do the best that they could to protect themselves.

The discussion centered on this, we were to be invisible, our only job was to simply help out if destruction started and the police was running too thin we were just trying to hold off the destruction until police get there.

Scott says the protest was peaceful and the volunteer peace keepers did nothing but observe.
