A community prayer walk is scheduled to raise awareness for racism in scottsboro.

It's sunday at 5pm and starts at the "scottsboro boys" museum and culture center.

People will pray then walk to the jackson county courthouse.

Waay 31's sophia borrelli spoke with the organizer about the message of the walk.

And they're fearful, and they want a voice, but he power of prayer is thing we need to change things."

Shelia washington is the director of the scottsboro boys museum and cultural center.

She is organizing the prayer walk but says it's really is a community effort.

The walk is about prayer-- not protest.

Shelia washington, director of scottsboro boys museum and cultural center: "we don't need a protest with rocks thrown into buildings, fires that are started.

We need to calm everything."

The walk is planned to start at the scottsboro boys museum and end at the jackson county courthouse.

It passes hammers in downtown scottsboro.

Anita kern, family member of owner for hammer's in scottsboro: "i think it's fine.

I support anybody that is a us citizen that wants to express their views certainly has a write to do so and in this particular case, i fully support what they are doing."

Sophia looklive: "here at hammer's they still have the wood up covering the glass windows of the store from last weekend when there were rumors of protests, but kern tells me that's just because she needs to figure out when she can get crews to the store to remove them."

Washington says the message of the walk is to show the community that god is in control.
