Candidate for Dekalb Commissioner calls out, apologizes to protestors

Protesters are calling out a dekalb county man running for office... todd sanderson is the republican candidate for dekalb county commissioner...a nd made comments about the protest that also received backlash from members of the community.fox 55's chris mullooly is live in auburn.

Chris... what were some of the things sanderson said???we were sent screenshots of a post that has since been deleted...he went on to say the protestors were 'worthless'... who had 'no jobs and hated successful people'.he wasn't the only one calling out the protestors... those who were there say they had no right to call them out.

The protest tuesday afternoon outside the dekalb county courthouse lined the street.

?nats?signs waving and plenty of honking from supporters driving by.?nats?one man who wasn't along for the ride... todd sandersoni was shocked when i read it he would feel comfortable saying that sanderson recently won the republican primary for dekalb county commissioner.he took to facebook to air out frustrations with a protest scheduled for last thursday.... calling out the protestors as 'worthless'.he went on to say they don't care about racism... and want to take down capitalism and freedom.

Disappointed at the comments cause i think they were used to put fear in the community andi think it workedjen hathaway says it wasn't just sanderson who believes this... but in a republican heavy county... many were skeptical andbut when you're in a conservative area those are the only voices you're hearing sanderson would go on to apologize...saying in part his words were 'not christlike and not helpful'... and 'welcomes peaceful protests for george floyd'...hathaway says she dosn't know if the apology is sincere... but says the outburst towards a peaceful protest was unnecessary.

Businesses were fearful that there would damage and i think that wa something they had nothing to worry about sanderson won the republican primary with 52 percent.right now..he is running unopposed... with their being no democratic candidate in the fieldwe reached out to his work to see if he would like to comment... we haven't heard back.reporting live ... chris mullooly... fox 55 news.
