This morning, we're leaning more about a peaceful protest in guntersville aimed at registering people to vote.

Waay 31's rodneya ross is live in marshall county this morning where about 30 percent of eligible voters are not even registered.

Rodneya?

I'm right outside of the marshall county courthouse where the protesters marched by over the weekend.

The organizers told us it's important that people use their voice -- and one way to do that is by exercising their constitutional right to vote.

The protest was organized to remember george floyd's death.

Hundreds gathered downtown where they laid with their hands behind their backs, marched, and registered to vote.

The protest organizers told us as we continue to see change across the country because of the protests -- it's important to vote.

Today julie roden, lead organizer "we need these people in marshall county to recognize that our vote counts so that other officers can be held accountable because they are wreaking havoc on those communities," the organizers told us several people did register to vote while at the protest.

If you aren't registered to vote but would like to be you still have time.

The runoff election here in alabama will be next month on july 14th.

You have until june 29th to get registered.

And you have until july 9th to apply for an absentee ballot.
