Lexington Urban Council to review police department Tuesday
ABC 36's Austin Miller reporting
The urban council's public safety committee has already unanimously passed a resolution reaffirming its commitment to addressing racism and injustice in the community.
Now...those words are beginning to turn to action.
On tuesday...the committee will hear from police administrators, the fraternal order of police and others in the first step of a review of department policies....including the use of no-knock search warrants.
If time permits...the committee will take public comments.
Council members promise an in-depth discussion to "fashion the concrete next steps" for change.
""the streets are talking, people in our community are talking, and we all should be listening."
Tuesday's meeting will be 'live' streamed.
The council is also expected to schedule a date for another meetiing...which would focus solely on hearing public feedback and getting community input.
That, too, will be 'live' streamed.
Tuesday's meeting is scheduled from 1-3 pm.
We'll keep you updated on the 'live' stream information as we learn more on our website...wtvq.com in studio, austin miller, abc 36.
