Clergy call for Peace in Tupelo - March and Rally

Protesters marched down the street to Fairpoint Park in front of City Hall on Saturday evening.

They said they wanted peace and equality.

The group met this afternoon at the intersection of green street and west main.

They marched to fairpoint park in front of city hall.

They held signs and chanted ..while pushing for equality and, as one woman said, "black power".

One woman said she thinks people want to be sure that their leaders don't forget about them.

"i think that people are needing some reinforcement, they want to know that leaders of the city are still focused, they still want to get some changes done such as any symbols that represent confederacy."

"there' not a whole lot of people here today, so i'm not sure what it means to this community, but i know that anytime i speak up, i know what it means to the black community when i speak up because they embrace me for that, you know, grateful."
