Waiting in the Heat
Waiting in the Heat

Temperatures are expected to rise this week.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced stores to limit the number of people allowed inside, so what are stores doing for customers while people wait outside.

What are stores doing to help keep customers waiting outside in the heat - cool?

Action news now reporter esteban reynoso joins us live at trader joe's in chico.

Esteban - what are they doing to help customers beat the heat while waiting to get in?

Because of the coronavirus trader joe's is limiting capacity inside.

That means some people have to wait outside in this heat.

And trader joe's is doing what it can to help them stay as cool as possible.

Jim nelson - shopper - "them putting up the awnings and offering water is really nice."

Phyllis polsan - shopper - "the fact that they have the shade there is really really appreciated."

Trader joes in chico setup canopies outside the entrance of their store to shield customers waiting to get in.

The store also offered water to those waiting.

Paul mozzini - trader joe's employee - "it's getting hotter.

Water to keep them hydrated.

That's the main thing during the summer.

And the shade adds a lot to their comfort."

"it's getting hot and it's gonna get hotter."

Besides the heat - customers have to wear a mask while waiting in line - making a hot day seem even hotter.

But the people i spoke to monday seem to understand.

"the virus is still out there and you gotta be safe.

I wear the mask to protect other people and keep everybody else safe."

Mario lemos - shopper - "it does get warm, i'm a people person and i do work in retail and when i have my mask on in public, and i'm trying to deal with customers sometimes i actually have to take it down a bit" "i think what's important to understand is that when a person wears the face mask they're protecting me.

When i wear this face mask i'm protecting them."

I visited several stores today and found while some of them do have shade outside their stores, and were passing out disinfecting wipes, shoppers had to bring their own water.
