Sweetwater gears up for last day of GearFest2020

The Sweetwater team moved the music festival from the stage to the computer in just a matter of months because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sweet water's 19th annual gear fest has gone virtual.

Fox 55's mallory beard gives us the details on how the sweet water team moved one of the city's biggest events from the stage to the computer.

Customers came in eager to sweetwater's two-day gearfast event.

But this year's music festival had to face a change of plans.heather herron//sweet water vp corporate communications"we like to say we bring in 17, 18,000 of our closest friends that celebrate with us, celebrate making music.

Buying audio gear and making musical instruments."

But because of covid 19, herron says sweetwater couldn't safely bring that many people onto their campus come this time of year.bob"we decided at the end of april to go to the online event as opposed to being in person."

Sweetwater's gearfest took place online yesterday and today.allowing customers all over the world to livestream the event and purchase items at the click of a button.gary woolman//swee twater customer"being almost 65 it's been fun to learn technology so it's been an ajustment let's put it that way."woolman says he's been coming to gearfest for years, and now having to use online platforms for work threw him a loop.so he came to check out the deals on microphones.gary woolman//sweetwater customer "today was just picking up the equipment."bailey says the sweetwater team managed the online adjustment like champs even with so much to do.bob bailey//sweetwater executive directorbob"everyone in the building has worked incredibly hard in the past months to bring all of the elements of gearfest to the online event."

And herron attributes the festival's posititve turnout by sticking to this motto: heather "we know it's disappointing that you can't come here, but if you've never been able to come to fort wayne, now is your chance to at least experience some of what gearfest offers."in fort wayne, i'm mallory beard fox 55 news.

3 today was the last day for gear fest 20-20.but don't fret.

The festival won't be slowing down as music content will still be available on the gear fest website and music items are able to be purchased online through sunday.
