Tupelo retires state flag to city museum

After state lawmakers approved the removal of Mississippi's state flag, the City of Tupelo retired the flag to the city's museum.

Tupelo city council voted this afternoon to take down the state flag.

This followed historic votes in the mississippi legislature to do away with the current banner and create a new design that'll go before the voters across the state in november.

So until that new flag is created, the city of tupelo flag will fly in its place outside of tupelo city hall.

Oren dunn museum director leesha faulkner was on hand to take the state flag to the museum, which is where it'll reside.

Here's what's next for the mississippi's flag..

Governor tate reeves is expected to sign the bill into law... spokesperson for reeves believes that could happen on tuesday or wednesday of this week.

The bill that will require the current flag to be removed within 15 days... it would also establish a commission to redesign the mississippi state flag..

The bill also says the new flag shall not include the confederate battle flag and must include the words "in god we trust."..
