Evansville homeowners fed up with flooding

Believe it or not-- evansville not getting as much rain as other parts of the tri-state-- where flash flooding is promoting warnings right now-- and at least one kentucky county is now under a state of emergency-- and while some are still feeling the effects of the weekend flooding -- it's only been made worse by today's rain.

44-news reporter marisa patwa is in evansville with a look at how one neighborhood constantly devastated by flooding is faring.

"every time it rains -- we're in a panic."

While evansville homeowners living in flash flood areas know what they signed up for -- it's still been a scary few days.

"we're up at night if it's raining -- we have to move all of our furniture to another level of the house."

For this married couple -- living in this home for more than twenty years on the west side -- flooding is a constant issue.

"this is 2020 -- it's the last part of june -- and we've already flooded five times out here."

And they aren't the only ones in the neighborhood having to deal with the aftermath of flooding and the struggles that come with cleaning it up.

"my neighbors are 70, 70 plus years old.

And when this floods, there' out here with brooms and shovels and there' shoveling two to there inches of muck of their driveway."

The couple blames urban development and lack of response from county officials for the reason why the flooding continues to get worse.

"i feel like if the county or whoever would come out and help us out with this problem and clean up these ditches out is really what needs to happen."

We've reached out to officials about the conditions in this neighborhood and their responsibilities when it comes to helping residents living in flash flood areas.
