Uk press agency Cover Images have unearthed these jaw-dropping 1970s concepts.

They show how the U.S. government pictures a life in space.

NASA Ames & Stanford University conducted 3 Space Colony Summer Studies and a number of eye-popping artistic renderings of the concepts were made.

They see humans living in huge circular structures, complete with gravity.

There are vistas of greenery, trees and lakes.

Researchers concluded: “space colonization is desirable because of the hope it offers humanity."
