We are less than 12 hours away from the mandatory mask order taking effect here in madison county.

When the space and rocket center opens its doors at 10 this morning, it's requiring all visitors and employees to wear a mask.

Then starting at 5pm, you're required to wear a face covering at all madison county businesses and venues open to the public or in outdoor areas where you can't social distance.

There are some exceptions to the county-wide order you're taking a look at just a few of them now.

Children 2 years and younger don't need to wear one.

You can take it off while eating or drinking.

You can temporarily remove it while getting a haircut and when it poses a significant health, safety or security risk.

The order also states that all businesses and venues open to the public have to put signs up stating that masks are required inside.

Here at the space and rocket center, if you don't have a mask, they'll be available at the ticket desk for 1-dollar.

When it comes to enforcing the order -- a spokeperson with the city of huntsville told us they anticipate it will work the same as previous health orders.

Police will respond to calls about face coverings and officers will carry masks to distribute them as needed.

Anyone who violates the order could face a fine.
