New information... today the application for a new small business grant opened.

The 100-million dollar program is called "revive alabama."

It's funded through the cares act.

Businesses can receive up to 15-thousand dollars for expenses incurred during the coronavirus pandemic.

Waay-31s alexis scott spoke with a business who applied today about how they'll use the money if selected.

Though dine-in sales have increased here at fire and spice... their sales at their food truck have decreased by 60-percent.

They're hoping with the new grant, if they get it, they will put all their effort towards revitalziing it.

Thomas poux, co-owner "usually we have big events during the summer that just arent happening and we're still not allowed on nasa so that's one of the big things that we do," thomas poux is the co-owner of fire and spice tex mex smokehouse in huntsville.

Thursday morning... he and his wife filled out the "revive alabama" application in hopes of being awarded up to 15-thousand dollars.

They told me applying for the revive alabama grant for their food truck was even easier than the paycheck protection program they applied for to support their restaurant.

"it just used the same website that we normally do with our taxes so they already had all our information so it was just a few pages with a few questions and i think it took maybe 10 minutes , at most, to do it," poux said they noticed a decline in customers last week when madison county's masking order went into effect - but said recently they've seen more people coming in.

He's not sure what did it... but he's happy to see more people.

"they understand now they gotta wear masks and it's not about us...we just have to make sure that we abide by the law," already shot the 100-million dollar grant application will close on july 25th at midnight... and it's on a first come... first serve basis and will continue to be bought out until it's all gone.

Reporting in huntsville, alexis scott waay-31 news.

To qualify for this grant...a business can only recieve the funds if they have not recieved federal assistance for the item they're claiming.

So for fire and spice - the p-p-p covered their restaurant expenses during the shutdown- and if awarded, revive alabama will help them
