Potential virtual learning challenges for the upcoming semester

Coronavirus cases continue to spike and parents and students could be faced with switching to virtual learning for the upcoming fall semester.

The clock is ticking on the start new school year -- and many parents are scrambling to come up with a plan... send the kids back and risk infection?

Or figure out a way to teach them from home... action news now reporter dani masten shows us why this is such a tough choice.

Laurie bethke/ parent (0-11) "they need to be in school and learning.

The distance learning is not super effective, and i just think that the kids aren't really spreading this so i think it is super important that we get them back in school.

" as covid cases spike.

Parents struggle with the thought of having to play the role of parent*an* teacher kelly schill/parent (17- 22 seconds) "i'm just not a teacher..

I'm a working professional and a mom."

Blanca segura/parent (22-28 seconds) "i haven't been to school in lord knows how long..so what they are teaching now is not the way i was taught."

Laurie bethke/parent "for working parents..who have to work.

How are they going to be able to effectively teach their kids while trying to do their jobs at home and keep them engaged and not just putting them in front of the tv.

Dani stand up if students can't return to the classroom and will be stuck at home for the upcoming fall semester..parent 's told me they are mostly concerned about their children's mental health.

Blanca segura/parent i worry about mental health for not just my child but for any other child..

You know a lot of times school is their scapegoat..scho ol is their safe heaven so for me that has probably been the most difficult thing to swallow is just how are these kids handling their mental health.

Parents would like to see their kids go back to school but understand why keeping them at home could be best.

Kelly schill/parent "until we have a little bit more control around everything it makes more sense to just keep the kids at home in my opinion.

From educational concerns to mental health worries parents on both sides of the issue can only wait to see what happens.
