Rome City Schools Superintendent Peter Blake said he was expecting the Governor to give districts the green light to reopen, but was hoping the state would provide more feedback regarding their submitted plans.

To reopen in the fall.

However the governor releasing new demands for districts.

News channel 2's brent kearney spoke to rome superintendent peter blake on his thoughts on reopening and the upcoming school year.

Despite good news coming from albany, school districts are still feeling the stress regarding the coming school year.

"everybody is high anxiety right now stress levels are high with students and staff.

The governor releasing a new list of demands.

Districts now need to post to their websites, their remote learning plan as well as their testing plan.

Blake says testing should be up to the department of health.

"obviously it is our duty to let families know those who may have been in contact.

But to do the full fledged contact tracing.

I think both of those roles sit with the department of health."

The state is asking districts to keep parents at the forefront of the conversation.

Blake says public forums with the community will be held online within the coming weeks.

But says having these conversations online, does come with challenges.

"as dialouge happens people have more questions.

Yes they can text them in we can type them in but staying on top of those and keeping a good dialouge back and forth is a challenge."

But what if a case does come to the district, rome superintendent peter blake says he's willing to do whatever necessary to ensure health and safety.

"me personally i'm leaning more towards closing down an entire building if their was a known positive case of a student or staff member within that building for a set period of time."

Something blake says is most likely to happen during the school year.

"a district in new york state is going to be the first ones we all have to be prepared to handle that to the best of our abilities.

But i do think it's going to happen and i do think if a school sees a positive case whether its a student or a teacher its going to drastically alter the course of education for the coming school year."
