Sheffield city schools head back to class

Two weeks ago.

We continue our back to school coverage this morning out in colbert county!

Some sheffield city school students are gearing up for their first day of class this morning-- with some new safety protocols in place.

Waay 31's sierra phillips is live at a sheffield elementary school with a look at what the superintendent says parents need to know before their kids walk through the doors, sierra?

I'm here at l.e.

Wilson elementary where it's quiet right now but in the next two hours kids will be heading to class!

Most either walk or are driven to school.

But before that happens, the superintendent is asking parents to be their first line of defense" against the coronavirus by checking their kids temperatures.

Already this morning, signs are up on the doors letting students know they need to wear a mask before going inside the school.

If they forget, the school has some ready to hand out.

Once they walk through the doors, they'll see hand sanitizing stations throughout the building.

Classrooms will be sanitized between classes and extra staff was hired to help clean at the end of the day.

If a student does show symptoms, their temperature will be taken and they will be moved to a separate room.

The district has a staggered start, so only some kids today will head to class.
