School nurses say they have their work cut out for them during this pandemic.

Wtva's wayne hereford joins us live from pontotoc where he talked a school nurse what has become the new normal in her work day.

Brandy chrestman has been a school nurse for the past three years.

The coronavirus pandemic has made her job even more important than it was before.

" we start our day by taking students' temperature before they enter the building.

We give them a posted note to give to their teacher.and that's their ticket to the classroom."

Brandy chrestman strolls the hallway at d.t.

Cox elementary in pontotoc .

She keeps a watchful eye on some 365 third and fourth grade students.

She shared her daily routine after students get checked into their rooms. "after that we just check students if they become symptomatic or have problems. if a student has two or more covid symptoms we let them sit in our quarantine room."

Chrestman says if a student is quarantined, a parent has to pick them up from school.

"once the parent picks them up i recommend that they go and see a physician .

If they test negative they can come on back to school.

If they test positive we recommend they quarantine for fourteen days."

Nurse chrestman says parents can make sure that kids are washing their hands , make sure they are using hand sanitizer, and wear masks in public to keep them safe at home.

She says they recommend students wash their hands in the school bathroom whenever they go and they have hand sanitizers in the classrooms. reporting live in pontotoc wayne hereford
