Lane county had seen a pretty steep spike in cases since friday... 45 to be exact... now with 18 of those cases coming from evergreen memory care home and the other 27 coming from small group gatherings..

Officials say we have a lot to keep working on.

Kezi 9 news reporter emma withrow is live at evergreen with more details on the latest outbreak and what experts say is the most important reason we need to get out case count down.

Right renee and just in the last hour we heard from a representative from evergreen who said they are now taking added precautions to prevent these outbreaks from happening.

Staff are required to be wearing ppe around the clock and all residents are currently asked to stay quarantined in their apartments for the time being.

Davis says with a 45 case spike over one weekend its a sign that we need to do better.... and although davis said we are trying to keep the case count down for a plethora of reasons whether its to keep our most vulnerable populations safe or keep our economy open... one of the most important is this: we're really concerned about schools and making sure that we have the opportunity to have in person instruction as soon as possible.

And we want to do our best to keep these numbers down so that that can happen because really, lane county's ability to control that is limited.

This is a state .

Davis says that alot of these cases are coming from outside of our area so its vital that if you absolutely have to travel you follow all the safety protocalls when you leave lane county so you dont infect others when you come back.

And in terms of evergreen memory care the good news is none of the residents with covid-19 are in the hospital... they are all safely isolating in the buildings right behind me.
