New this morning - tragedy on the firelines..

The u.s. national forest service is reporting the death of a firefighter working the 'august complex fire' in glenn county.

The incident took place on monday.

A second firefighter is being treated for injuries... no other information has been released on what led to the death and the injury or identities of the firefighters involved.

### this morning- the military is stepping in to help battle fires in northern california..

The department of defense sent 200 soldiers plus command staff to help battle the august complex on the mendocino national forest... soldiers from the 14th brigade engineer battalion, second stryker brigade combat team, second in fantry division, eye-corps from joint base lewis- mc-chord, washington arrived this week.

And the training is intense.### stemming from the weekend, butte county reported 178 newly confirmed coronavirus cases monday,.

That brings the county total to over 2,000.

120 of those confirmed cases, were accounted for on saturday alone.

23 people have died from the virus -- more than 16-hundred have recovered.

And county hospitals are treating 16 residents for the virus.### authorities say the shooting victim at a weekend protest in portland was 39-year-old aaron j.
