Nearly 1,300 people voted for the first and only day of early voting on Purdue's campus.

About one thousand people turned out for the arena's debut as a voting center.

News 18's joe paul is live at mackey this evening.

He's talked to voters who waited in long lines.

As well as purdue staff and poll rkers.

He joins us with the latest on the crowds outside the arena.

Today is the first and only day to early vote on purdue's campus.

And that's attracted a huge number of people.

I'm told that nely one-thousand cast ballots by four this afternoon.

That's no surprise based on what i've been seeing.

The line today wrapped all the way around the building since mackey opened its doors this morning.

We even saw purdue head basketball coach matt painter waiting in line.

I'm told it took voters up to an hour-and-a- half to cast their ballots.

The polls just closed at six tonight.

But barbara (kuh- nock-el) knochel says anyone still waiting in line can vote.

We go through and people that are in line, we will stamp their hands to show they were in line and we will get them processed.

People can't come up at 6:30 and expect to get in line to go vote.

Every one here is socially distanced and wearing masks.

Ten voting machines are set up on the concourse here at mackey.

Those are keeping the line moving along slowly but surely.
