Kit muellner is an advocate for mental health.

Muellner started hope ranch 22 years ago... which uses animals and mother nature as a form of therapy.

She's been closely tracking mental health during the pandemic.

"*19 pandemic has led to a substanical increase to mental health challenges including thoughts of suicide."

One factor that has led to a rise in suicide is self isolation during the pandemic.

Muellner says it's important that communities talk about suicide and other mental health issues in order to address community needs.

Standup: to bring awareness to mental health issues today at charlies eatery and pub an event was held called paint for hope... with proceeds going towards hope ranch.

Tamara demuth is also an advocate for mental health.

She says a 3 digit national number is a great resourse but more needs to be done to tackle the issue.

"i think we really need to help find resources.

We need to help those people reach out.

Because even for people who might be struggling.

They might now know how to reach out or who to reach out to or they are scared or embarassed... and we really need to help bring that awareness out to make it okay to talk about it and to work through those struggles.

About a dozen people participated in today's event.
