He was out for 14 days.

News 10's richard solomon joins us now live from the jail.

He has a message sheiff plasse wants to share with you this evening.

Patrece and rondrell that's exactly the message he's trying to push tonight.

Sheriff john plasse told me you can do everything right and still contract the virus.

But as health officials warn... taking precautions can help reduce the spread.

It's been 2 weeks since sheriff john plasse sat in this chair.

He was out after testing positive for the coronavirus.

"i went into quarantine on the 6th because i had found out someone i had dinner with tested positive" the sheriff says his worst symptoms were chest pain and tightness.

But he tells me... that wasn't the scariest thing..

"before you know that though, that you're sick and you have that, you don't have any symptoms you don't know that, that's when you have your risk" so he spent his days in self isolation..

"i picked up my camper pulled it home.

They put you in the dog house didn't they?

Well i didn't want to expose her or my daughter.

I mean if i've got it, i'll deal with it i just didn't want to expose anybody else" plasse says the office was left in good hands while he was out.

Chief deputy steve meng took over things.

"there was no loss of service to anyone in vigo county because of my exposure" plasse urges you to keep praciting the basics.

Wear a mask..practice social distancing.

The things you've heard for the last several months.

Plasse says those can save someones life.

"if they don't think it's there, it is.

I had it.

It i was positive.

But, there are a lot of things we can do to prevent contracting it " plasse says everyone in plasse says " contracting it prevent contracting it " plasse says everyone in the jail wears a mask unless they're in their office.
