Breaking, this is kezi 9 news... breaking news.

We begin with breaking news out of the university of oregon football program.

Just two weeks out from their season opener -- five people within the program -- have tested positive for covid-19.

Kezi 9 sports reporter julian minisohn joins us live in the studio to break it all down for us.

And julian -- besides cancelling today's scrimmage -- what does this mean for the ducks moving forward?

Jillian -- the five positive covid-19 tests are the first for the oregon football program since daily testing began.

All five are asymptomatic, in isolation.

And being monitored by medical staff.

The program is also working with local health and its medical team for contact tracing.

The entire team will be tested again tomorrow, which is normal protocol.

Ducks head coach mario cristobal addressed the media following tonight's news.

"they're all asymptomatic as normal as can be.

They're all in isolation, working with the medical staff and local health to make sure all protocol is followed.

It has been to a tee since the beginning.

It's the first time we've had postivie antigen tests in our program.

Then also working with local health and medial team with the contact tracing.

There will also be follow-up tests for the five who tested positive.

The ducks will decide what to do as far as team activities following the results of those follow-up test there is no word as to which players or team personel tested postiive.

The ducks season opener is two weeks from tonight.

According to the previously announced pac-12 game cancellation guidelines, each team needs 53 available scholarship players before a game is either canceled or postponed.

Teams have the option to play with less if they decide to do so.

And that's if they're able to isolate the spead of the virus within the team.
