How did they count so quickly?

Mph states including michigan and pennsylvania may be in dispute, but closer to home, the cerro gordo county auditor's office was able to get its results confirmed pretty quickly.

Kimt news 3's nick kruszalnicki is live in mason city to explain how they did it.

Nick?

That's right amy ?

"* counting from all 26 precincts in the county wrapped up at 10?

"*15 last night.

So how did they get it all done so quickly ?

"* especially with the record number of absentee ballots?

Cerro gordo county auditor adam wedmore tells me they got a head start.

His team was able to start opening and reviewing absentee ballots on saturday.

They got special clearance from the state to start counting those ballots on monday.

Wedmore says if they had waited until election day to count the absentee "without having that, we would have been working since early in the morning on election day, all the way through election night.

We may not have had an opporunity to get all those ballots reviewed, opened, processed and counted by the time polls closed."

The auditor's office will continue to count a few absentee ballots as they arrive, they do have to be postmarked the day before the election to count.

Live in mason thank you nick.

On tuesday the county board of supervisors will meet to canvass the election and declare the results as final.
