Community cancer network in lafayette is going virtual for a fundraiser this year.

C-c-n financially supports cancer patients living in and around tippecanoe county.

News 18's micah upshaw shares why this pandemic has heightened a need for funding.

M: the community cancer network, also known as ccn is an organization designed to help fill financial gaps for patients.

T: we provide a lot of gas cards, we provide, you know, essential things like wigs and rent for their apartments.

M: terry kix is a purdue women's basketball coach and is a board member of ccn.

Also a cancer survivor, she's seen the financial struggle patients face first hand.

T: so many patients that just were struggling to just get to their treatments.

I numerously saw nurses and doctors walking around sticking in people's wallets.

M: kix says the pandemic and holiday season only amplifies the need.

That's why they're depending on the community to step up and participate in ccn's live virtual fundraiser on friday november 20th.

T: the main event includes all of us getting together tcelebrate , listening to some live music and bidding on some incredible live and silent auction items. m: the auction items include several vacation destinations, 2022 u.s. golf open tickets, money, and gift cards.

Kix says all of these prizes were provided through people locally and across the country who've decided to donate.

S: ccn's so important because we have the opportunity to help so many others.

M: sharon versyp, purdue women's basketball head coach and also a cancer survivor, is one of ccn's biggest donors.

She's hoping this year's event brings a big turnout to show patients they're not alone.

S: that's very, very important not to be alone and not think or believe that you're alone.

Hopefully we can raise money.

If you can give five dollars, ten dollars, 25 dollars that all adds up.
