More than 300 health care workers were expected to receive the first round of the COVID-19 in Tippecanoe County Friday.

The first round of health care workers are receiving their covid-19 vaccine today.

As news 18's balint szalavari reports, health care workers are hoping this will be a turning point in the pandemic this is a big step in helping protect those fighting the coronavirus on the frontlines.

More than 300 health care workers are expected to get their vaccine today.

The vaccine will also help establish herd immunity in hospital settings.

As we previously reported, the county received more than 900 doses of the vaccine thursday morning.

Those being vaccinated this morning were the first in tippecanoe county.

I spoke with chris mansfield this morning.

He's the associate chief of adult inpatient medicine at iu health arnett.

He believes this is the next big step in returning to normal.

Mansfield: "i know we still have have months to go in dealing with everything that's still going to come over that period of time, but it's just very exciting to finally see.

Y we may reach some normalacy sometime in the near future."

Mansfield says this was the most excited he has ever been to receive a vaccine.

Several dozen were able to receive the vaccine each hour.

Vaccinations will continue over the next few days.

Iu health arnett is expected to receive another shipment of the vaccine as soon as tuesday.
