MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -- Mayor Lester Miller has partnered with various organizations to help create the Brookdale Warming Center.

In high definition this is the 41nbc news at six... macon-bibb mayor lester miller is joining with local non profit organizations .... to help create a "warming center" ... for the homeless and families in need.

41 nbc's lizbeth gutierrez was there for the tour of the new site.

Standup: once brrokdale warming center opens january sixth, the public will be expected to check-in prior to staying at the center.

Mayor lester miller:"this location is a temporary solution, our hope is to use this as a product project where we can learn the challenges that we may have and we can start to design a long term solution with our commisioners."

Those who stay at the center will undergo a background check and screened for covid.

Mayor miller says the facility can house up to one hundred and twenty five people.

"we're looking forward to filling those beds necessary and try to help them through this troubling time."

The center will follow all cdc guidlines, by making sure beds are six feet apart and masks are worn at all times.

They will also have an infirmary room for those with symptoms. "as you come in and get checked in, your temperature will be taken, we're going to ensure that you have no signs or symptoms and ensure that everyone is being taken care of."

The facility is not only for the homeless, but also for families c1 3 b13 in need.
