Jon: tradition at trident medical center today.

Talking about pet therapy and details.

Amy: as you know staff they are really excited.

They are quite literally rolling out the red carpet for these therapy pups.

So this is a fun event the hospital used to partake in daily pre-pandemic.

Volunteers in their certified dogs would come and snuggle up to patients to provide a sense of comfort.

With the pandemic trident had to do away with it for about a year but now and told everyone is ecstatic to announce pet therapy is returning with 30 volunteers who have been fully vaccinated and socially distant.

I'm told that could mean a lot to patient now since a lot of them missing their families and own pets.

Just having that support was just -- it was just nice to see that sparkle in our patient's eyes return.

You know, we face our own struggles caring for patients.

And for us to have that enjoyment like the patients, it means a lot to everybody.

Amy: so the pet therapy isn't just restricted to trident medical center.

It will be used across the whole system.

It will go from big pups to small pups and there's really something for everyone to enjoy.

This afternoon around noon volunteers and their pups will strut down the red carpet.

Hospital staff on both sides cheering them on before they go cuddle some patient.
