Douglas and Coos counties stay in extreme risk as cases continue to rise

School football season.

It another two weeks in the extreme risk category for douglas and coos counties starting this friday.

Kezi 9 news reporter evita garza joins us live from roseburg after speaking with officials and residents from both counties...evita?

Matt, renee?i in downtown roseburg where many people i spoke to say theye devastated that douglas county is spending another two weeks in extreme risk.

They say they don want to see small businesses suffer any longer because of these restrictions.

In the last two weeks, douglas county reported 255 cases& which is what is keeping us in the extreme risk category.

In order to be in high risk, the county needs to be below 200 cases& based on a population of 110 thousand.

Health officials said many of their cases are coming from workplace outbreaks, schools and too many people attending large gatherings.

One man i spoke to says he not surprised by this& and he worried nothing will change anytime soon.

It horrible.

Especially because i have to live here.

I doing my part to keep from spreading or catching it myself but i think other people are not doing the same.

If people can figure things out wel keep it the way it is?

13 seconds in coos county & theye not making much progress either.

They reported 239 cases in the last two weeks& which means theyl be in the extreme risk category for the eighth week in a row.

Like douglas county, public health officials said they are seeing a lot of cases from outbreaks in different parts of the county.

They believe theye getting hit hard right now because people are experiencing covid fatigue& but that why they say following the safety protocols is more important now than ever.

County risk levels will be re-evaulated on march 22nd by the oregon health authority.
