Group looking for volunteers this weekend to help plant a community garden in Alton Park.

The net resource foundation is looking for volunteers to plant vegetables as part of their "spring into action" event.

The "spring into action" event is part of the hughes project.

The hughes project will help enhance the community by offering an outdoor performance venue, tree- covered paths for reflection and meditation, and a location for summer and after-school programs participants are needed to de- weed six garden beds and plant vegetables like tomatoes, green peppers, corn, and okra.

"it's a free open food source to the community and it allows the community members to come and harvest from the garden.

They can come in and clean or de-weed the garden.

It builds social capital.

Those who come out to the garden frequently or are passing by can grab some vegetables.

You can talk to them about what's going on in the community."

The event will take place on saturday, april 10 at 9:00 a.m.
