Italy’s Mount Etna spewed smoke and ash again on Saturday 26 June, the latest of a series of recent eruptions.

Lava was seen flowing from the crater, extending further to the south-southwest.

Activity was also seen at an opening on the south-eastern flank of the volcano’s south-east crater.

That is feeding a small lava flow that pours into the valley below.

Lapilli (rock fragments ejected from volcanoes) of up to 2cm across, affected the nearby area of Zafferana Etnea, and ash pushed by the wind also fell on coastal towns of the eastern side of the volcano.
