The late, great entertainer and civil rights activist Lena Horne became the first Black woman in U.S. history to have a Broadway theater named after her on Tuesday, when NYC's Brooks Atkinson Theatre on W 47th Street changed its name to the Lena Horne Theatre.
Over the course of her life (1917-2010), Horne was a prolific dancer, stage performer, screen actor, and singer.
She also was an activist, participating in the original 1963 March on Washington with MLK and other civil rights icons.
