While I want the game to be as challenging as possible, I find that Legendary difficulty doesn't really make the enemy smarter, it just creates so many annoying problems for you (loyalty issues, cheating enemies that gain units too fast, etc.) that you have to follow one of a couple set paths through the initial parts of the game or you won't make it.
That just takes the fun and strategy out of the game and makes it trial and error.
No, I don't have the patience to play the same scenario 15 times to figure out exactly what I'm supposed to do at each step.
I want to devise my own path and strategy.
The enemy is just as smart on Very Hard, they just don't cheat so much and limit your choices to those bullet pointed out on websites for you.
"Do exactly this on turn 3... and then do this on turn 4... or else!" GFY.
